about

The follow-up to Diniari/Senja, the newest release on ë’s club-oriented Y-series dives deeper into Asia-based electronic music artist Hadiid’s Bornean roots. Born and raised in Kuching in Sarawak, the mysticism and rich history of that part of South East Asia have been one of Hadiid’s main sources of inspiration. This allowed him to concoct a 2-track EP that will transport you to Borneo with ease through the medium of hypnotic grooves.

The first track “Ninga Kami”, meaning “Hear Us” is in the Iban language spoken by the eponymous Iban tribe who were infamous for headhunting and being very territorial. This apex tribe expressed themselves with very distinct instruments. Iban Gongs have been sampled to express their unorthodox approach to music through a 21st-century lens. The closing track “Timang Nempalai Kasai” is a minimalist ritual-like journey based on chants and invocations that compare cotton planting to an adventure in the world of gods.

Named after PUA: a fabric woven by the Iban people, Hadiid pays respects to the culture of his homeland by choosing 2 distinctly different staples from it.
